video transcript

What’s up, guys? Welcome back to The Educated Barfly.

Today, I’m gonna make for you in Americano cocktail. The Americano cocktail is something I should have done probably before now. I want to do it for you. It is the great-grandfather to the Negroni or maybe just the grandfather, yeah, maybe just the grandfather. It was the grandfather to Negroni. Anyway it was created in the 1860s and it was first served at Gaspare Campari’s bar in Milan, Italy. It used to be called the Milano-Torino because of the origin of its ingredients, that being Campari which is from Milan and then Vermouth di Torino, also known as sweet vermouth, which is from Turin or Torino, in Italian I guess.

It’s pretty simple cocktail. You guys have been asking me for a few more highballs so I’m gonna do a highball for you. First thing we’re gonna do is just super easy. We’re just gonna do one ounce of sweet vermouth. Today, we’re using Cocchi di Torino. And one ounce of Campari. You can really add this in any order you want. I like to add these ingredients for it first and then put the soda on top because it sort of mixes it as you go. You want to make sure you’re using cold soda, and we’re just going to fill it up, top it off with soda, probably about four or four-and-a-half ounces, if I were gonna guess. And then we’re just gonna do an orange twist. And I like, since this is a highball cocktail, to make a really long orange twist so that it sits nicely in the glass. And there you have it. The Americano cocktail. Now, let’s taste it and see how it goes.

I mean it’s a very simple flavor. It’s just very light and refreshing. It’s got a lot of good CO2 and then you get the bitterness from the Campari and you get a little bit of sweetness from the vermouth. This is going to be a nice brunch one for you and it’s low ABV so drink it and I’ll see you next time.
