It’s one of my favorite Prohibition era cocktails, this is the Last Word. The Last Word is one of a handful of Prohibition era cocktails that have been making a comeback lately. I think the cool thing about the Last Word is that you can drink it all day long. You can drink it in the afternoon, and kind of like the name says, it’s the Last Word, you could use it as a nightcap too. The four ingredients on paper don’t look like they should work well together, but when combined they dance really lovely and make a really pretty, bright drink.

Here’s what you are going to need to make the Last Word at home. You’ll need a high-quality gin, today we’re using Tanqueray No. 10, some green chartreuse, which is a vegetable liqueur from France. You’ll need some maraschino liqueur like Luxardo, and some fresh lime juice. We’re going to start off by grabbing a pint glass, we’re going to add three quarters of an ounce of gin, then we’ll add three quarters of an ounce of maraschino liqueur, followed by three quarters of an ounce of green chartreuse. Last comes three quarters of an ounce of fresh lime juice, then we’re just going to add some ice, cap it off, and give it a good shake. After the drink is nice and cold, you’re going to double strain everything into a chilled cocktail glass. I like to use a Nick and Nora. And then you’d done. Easy to make, bright and light, the Last Word.
